Ministry of Transportation and IATA Agree on MoU for Cooperation in the Aviation Sector

Jakarta (February 10, 2026)— The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation agreed to a collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday (February 10) at the Ministry of Transportation Office. This MoU serves as the basis for implementing cooperation in the development of civil aviation in Indonesia to support the realization of a safe, secure, efficient, and sustainable national aviation system.

The signing of the MoU was carried out by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, and IATA’s Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific, Sheldon Hee.

“The signing of this MoU is a strategic step to strengthen collaboration between the government and international aviation organizations to improve the safety, security, and quality of civil aviation services in Indonesia,” said Lukman F. Laisa.

Several areas of cooperation have been agreed upon by both parties, including aviation safety and security, regulatory harmonization, civil aviation operational studies and consultations, and the sharing of knowledge, expertise, and best practices in accordance with international standards.

Furthermore, Director General Lukman explained that the collaboration could include the provision of aviation data and information, the potential for discounts on airport intelligence services, and human resource development within the Directorate General of Civil Aviation through various training and capacity-building programs offered by IATA.

“By supporting the improvement of aviation human resource competencies and strengthening data-driven policymaking, we hope this collaboration with IATA can run smoothly and have a real impact on the progress of the Indonesian aviation industry,” Lukman concluded.

In terms of financing, this MoU is implemented based on the budget availability of each party and does not create binding financial obligations. It also affirms the parties’ commitment to respecting Intellectual Property Rights and maintaining the confidentiality of data and information exchange.

Meanwhile, IATA Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific, Sheldon Hee, stated that IATA is ready to support the development of Indonesian civil aviation through its technical expertise and global experience.

“IATA is committed to working with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to support the strengthening of Indonesia’s aviation system to align with international practices and standards,” he said.

This MoU is valid for five years and can be extended for another three years based on evaluation results and agreement between the parties.
